Seung (Steve) Choi is the Founder and Principal of SCLegal.  Steve brings 25 years of legal experience in the U.S. and internationally to the practice of law.  A graduate of the University of Southern California (B.S., Business Administration/Finance), Steve obtained his law degree from Loyola Law School, Los Angeles (J.D.) and LL.M. (with Distinction) from Georgetown University Law Center, Washington D.C. with a concentration in Securities & Financial Regulation. Prior to founding SCLegal, Steve practiced law with leading international law firms including as an associate in the Project Finance practice of London-based international law firm, Linklaters LLP in Hong Kong and as partner with Lee & Ko, a leading corporate law firm in Seoul, South Korea. 

 

Steve currently counsels startups, early-stage companies, and venture capital funds investing in the areas of high-tech, entertainment, healthcare, biomedical device, digital and social media, advertising, gaming, software, and crypto/blockchain. Steve has prior experience working with multinational corporations, global financial institutions and private equity funds; he has acted as lead or co-counsel in over 300 corporate, international banking, asset and structured finance, private M&A, venture capital, and private equity transactions.

During law school, Steve was an editorial member of the Loyola of Los Angeles International & Comparative Law Journal and undertook a clerkship in the Torts Division of the California Department of Justice in Los Angeles.  He has published law review articles in Loyola of Los Angeles International & Comparative Law Journal and the Journal of Korean Law of Seoul National University at which he was an Associate Editor.

Raised in the Los Angeles area, Steve began his lengthy professional career in the Trust Department of Citizens Bank in Pasadena, CAHis business experience also includes work as a tax consultant with Arthur Andersen LLP in Los Angeles where he assisted companies throughout Southern California in structuring and implementing tax-efficient business strategies. 

 

A life-long learner, Steve is currently pursuing PhD research in Theology and Ethics at a leading research university in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. In his spare time, Steve enjoys such diverse activities as skiing, landscape/cityscape painting, motorcycling and spending time with his family.  Steve is a fluent Korean speaker.
